Agency to promote Halesworth Ale Day

By: Big Wave PR

Big Wave PR has been charged with promoting the Halesworth Ale Day.

This year sees the return of Dwile Flonking!

The event will take place on Saturday 13 June 2026, from 12-6pm, bringing a full programme of events celebrating brewing, history and hospitality across the town.

Following last year’s inaugural Halesworth Ale Day, the ale-fest returns promising to put the ‘ale’ back into Halesworth! The day will include a launch of a new Halesworth ale specially brewed by the local Tindall Brewery. The event will also offer brewery talks, beer-making demonstrations, new ale trail, guided heritage walks led by local history experts and a ‘Malt Experience’ exhibition at The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth.

New this year will be a ‘Dwile Flonking’ contest, where revellers dance around a ‘flonker’ – person with a stick – that flings a dwile – a rag – and gains points for hitting them on their face or body. The contest has not taken place in the town since 1970!

Organising the event is Kelly Parker, Marketing and Events Officer, Halesworth Town Council. She says: “Halesworth has a great tradition of ale making and a vibrant hospitality scene. The Halesworth Ale Day is a great opportunity to showcase the very best of our town. Visitors can take part in the festivities, while also visiting award-winning delis and cafés, and browse the town’s independent shops.

“The event also shines a light on our local ales at venues including The Tap Room, The White Hart, Chinny’s Sports Bar, The Angel and The Swan.”

The event offers a dedicated family area, which will showcase live theatre, giant bubble displays, stilt walkers, craft activities, face painting and games. Visitors can also enjoy live music performances from brass, blues, folk and roots bands.

Halesworth’s Market Square will be turned into a drinks market, offering produce from local breweries, vineyards, cider makers and gin producers, alongside food vendors.

Visitors can also enjoy scenic walks to explore the Blyth Road Navigation to learn how traditional wherry boats once transported malt along the river Blyth for beer production.

Halesworth Ale Day 2026 is funded and supported by the SZC Tourism Event Grant through East Suffolk Council and Halesworth Town Council.
