Over 1000 Pupils Attend Chelmsford Skills Festival

By: Big Wave PR

Over 1000 Year 8 pupils attended the Chelmsford Skills Festival at Writtle University College on 30 June.

Over 1000 pupils attended the Chelmsford Skills Festival!

The Chelmsford Skills Festival returned to the city to provide children with a hands-on taste of different jobs.

We were commissioned to event manage the festival for Chelmsford City Council. The team needed to secure a wide range of local businesses and organisations to exhibit at the event. Each company needed to set-up a fun and interactive experience that would showcase a different career option.

We also created a Chelmsford Skills Festival event brochure. The booklet gave an outline of all the action at the event, plus interviews with top entrepreneurs and business leaders in the area.

Our event management team were also in charge of bringing the festive spirit to the event. Flags, banners and bunting were bought. Food trucks and ice cream vans hired and a local DJ engaged to bring the vibe. A graffiti artist also worked with schoolchildren to create a special mural of the Chelmsford City Council logo.

More than 50 local businesses and organisations gave up their time for free to exhibit at the festival. Their interactive stands engaged the students in activities to highlight the various skills required in different job and employment sectors.

Film and photography

Our in-house photographer was the office press and PR photographer for the event. We were also commissioned to produce a film of the day to promote the Chelmsford Skills Festival. To view, visit Chelmsford Skills Festival 2023 (long version) – YouTube.

The Chelmsford Skills Festival proved a great success

The festival proved a real hit, local schoolchildren remarked – “I loved it! I really liked the psychology; I want to study that now.”

To others, saying: “I was interested to hear about careers at Titan Airways. I’d really like to become an air steward.”

Councillor Marie Goldman, Deputy Leader of Chelmsford City Council was pleased with how well the event went:

“It’s been amazing to witness children have those eye-opening, lightbulb moments where they’ve just gone, “wow, I didn’t know you could do that, I didn’t know that was a career!”
