We’re delighted to support the Royal British Legion for a ‘Legionnaires v. Legends’ rugby fundraiser on Saturday 14 October 2017.
Legends will battle against Legionnaires to raise cash for WWII veterans
Teams of rugby-lovers will be travelling to London for a mammoth fundraiser. Amateur rugby players will take on a team of international ‘Legends’ to raise funds for the Royal British Legion. Cash raised will be donated to World War II heroes to make a special trip of remembrance. The funds will allow 90 year old veterans, who fought at the battle of Monte Cassino in 1944, to return to Italy. They will be accompanied by a relative, carer and medical staff. The tour will give veterans the chance to say a last farewell to their fallen comrades.
Many D Day veterans have had the chance to revisit the Normandy beaches thanks to a scheme set-up by the treasury and run by Remembrance Travel. However there is no such programme for those who fought in Italy, which has been described as a pivotal battlefield of World War Two. Conditions were compared to World War One, with men knee-deep in mud and fighting during the harshest of weather conditions.
The match will be followed by a gala dinner, auction and entertainment, including a question and answer session with Rugby Legends. The international rugby Legends will host tables, which gives fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet their heroes. There are only 35 gala dinner tables of ten available at this high quality occasion!
